Overview

Buds and Roots is a mobile cannabis dispensary company. The truck caters to an urban clientele who are socially focused. Buds and Roots balances the approachability of the hand crafted and the professionalism of the modern. The goal was a "no frills" approach to cannabis focused on local community and sustainability.

Rejecting the expected

To reflect the handcrafted essence of the brand, I curated and digitized vintage scientific illustrations of cannabis plants as core visual elements. These detailed botanical drawings lend an authentic, educational feel while emphasizing the brand’s artisanal roots.

I deliberately avoided the clichéd seven-point cannabis leaf, choosing instead to highlight the plant's natural complexity through more nuanced, heritage-inspired visuals.

Flowers and more

The packaging design balances clean, minimal structure with organic visual elements to reflect the brand’s blend of nature and modern wellness. Neutral tones and tactile materials evoke a sense of calm and care, while vintage botanical illustrations add depth and authenticity. Each detail—from type choice to imagery—was chosen to communicate trust, quality, and a handcrafted feel without relying on the hyper modern trends of modern cannabis brands.

Modern wellness

The visual identity of Buds + Roots draws inspiration from the intersection of nature and urban life. The logo, incorporates a sans-serif font to convey a clean, modern aesthetic. To highlight the brand’s connection to wellness and the medical industry, I replaced the "and" in the company name with a "+". This subtle yet impactful touch adds a reference to health and care, aligning with the brand’s mission
